Arts Highlight: Visual Arts
For this post I interviewed my friend Claire Congdon! Throughout her 4 years at TRHS, she's taken a varity of art classes:
Claire's favorite class was IB Art because "Mrs.Green is the best art teacher and you have to incorporate art history into it too and she likes that. IB Art taught us more to live as an artist: you had to explain your thought process and how you created a piece, explain the changes you made, revisions and inspirations. There were monthly projects, the due dates were clear, and we had much more freedom to choose what we made. It wasn't just making art to get a grade."
Claire's main medium is painting, especially portraits. You might have seen her work displayed in the hallways at Central Academy. She's been painting since 8th grade but started taking it more seriously her junior year. Her advice for incoming freshman is to "talk to Ms. Dunley about what classes you want to take! She supports the arts."
Visual arts help satisfy the "Creativeness and inventiveness" need of GT learners. The ability to create original art satisfies the aesthetic and moral commitment to self-selected work.

Are there some art classes you can take if you do not take Intro to 2D and 3D first?
ReplyDeleteI think so? When signing up for classes, a counselor will better inform you of available courses.
