Finding Balance
High school students are often swept away in an overwhelming amount of involvements and school work. It is so easy to push over the edge of one's limits and tire out. Finding balance as a student is imperative. There needs to be a good ratio of time spent on homework, extracurricular activities, work, and social time. (Yes you need social time! However, balance is key).
Another aspect of finding and keeping balance in high school involves class choices. Many students are lured into taking too hard of a class load due to obsession over class rank and GPA. Taking too many AP classes will be detrimental in the long run. Take the largest amount of APs junior or senior year, keeping in mind that those years present additional college related challenges. A balanced school schedule is extremely important in order to keep up good mental health.
Finally, it is important to keep a good balance between social and academic time commitments. Too much social time leads to lack of control and willpower in cracking down and staying on top of work. It also leads to procrastination. However, not allowing time for social activity leads to increased stress and lower quality of life. It is important to keep a good balance between the two. If you hang out with friends on a Friday night, spend Saturday morning doing homework.
Hope this helps!
How can a student find balance if there really are only AP options left for them to take?
