Arts Highlight: Music

Roosevelt has many outstanding music programs. While I unfortunately was never very musically oriented, I had the pleasure of meeting many friends who were involved in music programs. Between choir, orchestra, and band, to name a few, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the Roosevelt music community.

I talked to Clarence Nguyen about the music department at Roosevelt in order to get an inside perspective. He first noted all of the different choirs. The main ones are Chamber Choir, Revelation Show Choir, Bridges to Harmony Gospel Choir, and Da Capo A Capella Choir. Clarence participates in Bridges to Harmony. There are 2 main concerts for all the choirs: one in winter and one in spring, however the choirs have individual concerts throughout the year.

Clarence's advice for underclassmen is to push themselves outside of their box in order to further their musical abilities. Taking risks is a good thing most of the time in music because it allows for development in the artist. When one stays in a bubble of comfort, they can lose the passion they feel for music as a whole. He thanks Bridges to Harmony for helping him realize this mindset.

Clarence also noted how inclusive and diverse the choir community is. It showcases an amazing group of talented Roosevelt students.
